Get Connected - Prayer Ministries
Contemplative Prayer
A famous Christian theologian once wrote that the universe is held together by the prayer of silence. Several people from the Wimberley/Kyle community participate in this ministry and are rewarded with a closer connection to God and to God's creation.

Skills Needed: No skills, just a desire to embark on regular periods of interior silence. Skill comes with practice.
Commitment: We pray together in the evenings for 30 minutes each week. We are also encouraged to engage individually in silence every day.
Training Not Required: Books and tapes may be borrowed from the church or others in the group.
Need for More People: About six are involved. Others welcome.

Intercessory Prayer
This ministry extends the mission of prayer to include non-parishioners who wish prayer. A printed list is provided at Wednesday services and Cursillo meetings and to several interested parishioners.

Commitment: A discipline of praying at least daily. Some may pray for five minutes and some for an hour once or twice daily.
Training: Not required, but books and occasional workshops are helpful.
Need for More People: About 20 people form this intercessory prayer ministry. Others are always welcome to join in.

Lectio Devina
Creates an opportunity for the development of a community of prayer, Bible reading and spiritual sharing in a quiet, intimate and non-threatening way. We practice listening for God's voice in scripture and seeking His guidance in our daily lives. We share our insights with each other, we pray for each other and for our concerns for our families, our church and our world.

Skills Needed: An open heart and an open mind, or the desire for them.
Commitment: One hour each week, plus travel time.
Need for More People: Yes. Four are involved now.

The Men's Prayer Group
The men pray together one early weekday morning each week for 30 minutes. They pray for the Church, all in pain, every school in this area and other concerns. After praying together the group engages in fellowship and Bible study for another 30 minutes.

Skills Needed: None other than a willingness to pray together.
Commitment: An hour each week as often as you can.
Need for More People: There's always room for more.

Prayer Warriors
Through prayer the Prayer Warriors seek to provide comfort, support, solace and the binding love of God. Our purpose is to fulfill all requests for members and their families who are in need of prayer.

Commitment: The prayer requests come almost daily- they are sent out to the Prayer Warriors by e-mail (and a few by phone) as soon as possible upon receiving them. The Prayer Warriors then put the prayers on their personal prayer list. Updates are requested on the person being prayed for and reported to the Prayer Warriors. All Prayer Warriors are asked to pray daily for those in need.
Need for More People: Two people now contact approximately 160 Prayer Warriors by e-mail and one person contacts 5 by phone. All are welcome.
