Theatre and Religion have long been closely affiliated. Most theatre scholars readily acknowledge that theatre as an art form has its beginnings in primitive religious ritual. It is also apparent that the issues addressed by religion (issues of ultimate concern, the supernatural, and the existence of a Higher Being) are often addressed symbolically in theatrical performances.

Saint Stephen's chancel drama group, Angels in the Wings, is committed to addressing those issues through dramatic readings and plays or comedy sketches which are presented either in church or in the parish hall. Memorization of scripts (in most instances) is not required, but several short rehearsals are necessary. While experience in theatre or public reading may be helpful, it is neither a prerequisite nor is it essential. (We will coach and encourage you.) This is an exciting ministry in which all age groups may participate.
