Jubilee Outreach

The idea of Jubilee was established in Israel as part of the cycle of Sabbath time. Every seventh year was a Sabbath year, and every seventh Sabbath year plus one, was a Jubilee - a time when fields and vines were rested, slaves were freed, and encumbrances were removed from land. When Jesus came, he proclaimed that the great Jubilee had come. All are freed from tyranny, oppression, poverty, and hunger.

Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church is determined to share in the Jubilee by stopping our normal activities every seventh week. We set aside time to break the bonds of poverty and despair in our communities and abroad, working to help those who cannot serve us in return, bringing the love and peace of Christ into a broken world. It is our hope to serve as a sign and an outpost of the Kingdom of Heaven in our own time and place.
