Cursillo is a Spanish word which means a short course. In this case it is a short course in Christian, Apostolic Living. Participants in the Cursillo weekend gain tools and "rules of life" for living their Christian faith in order to enthusiastically share the joy of knowing Christ with others in their everyday environments. Cursillo is a laity led weekend and is patterned on Jesus' example of searching out and calling groups of potential leaders, training them and then sending them out to bring the world to Him.
The Cursillo weekend begins on Thursday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon. Participants listen to talks presented by the team members and engage in study, reflection, fellowship and worship (and enjoy most excellent culinary treats prepared by our diocesan chefs). The weekend begins with introspection and is filled with music, fun and fellowship with folks from across the diocese.
Cursillo weekends are held four times a year at Mustang Island Conference Center and at Camp Capers.
Ultreya is another Spanish word used in Cursillo which means Persevere. Ultreya is a gathering of Cursillistas (people who have attended Cursillo and their guests) with the purpose of reinforcing their daily walk with Christ and efforts to keep their commitment to their Rule of Life.
Ultreyas can be held within a single parish or within a convocation or group of active parishes who desire to participate. The time offers the opportunity for people to catch up with others who may have attended their Cursillo weekend and talk about how their activities are going. It is a good opportunity for fellowship and can be held monthly or quarterly as desired by the Cursillo community.
